World Maritime Day was established in 1978 by the United Nations in 1978 to raise awareness about the importance of the shipping industry.
In 2023, the Seafarers’ Ministry of the Golden Gate at the International Maritime Center [SMGG-at-the-IMC] launched the World Maritime Day Community Connections Breakfast joining the global observance with an emphasis on supporting the welfare and wellbeing of the seafarers on whom we all depend.
On Friday, September 25th, SMGG-at-the-IMC will host the 4th Annual World Maritime Day Community Connections Breakfast at Scott’s Jack London Square. The event brings maritime industry members together with representatives from the Greater Bay Area business, arts, civic, faith and academic sectors to take pride in our shared maritime traditions.
The creative format and inspirational program promote engagement, reflection and genuine connection among all who attend. Among the many lessons that all of us learned from the COVID pandemic is that these kinds of in-person gatherings matter to our individual and collective wellbeing.
